Hey let me tell you a story
About Waterlily Ruby
It's not a good story the way that I tell it
But as any story someone might like it, yeah
Waterlily Ruby was born on the first of July
Forty years ago in the same place that she died
But she been everywhere, she had done everything
She had met everyone that she wanted to and did the things
That she wanted to
Water Lily Ruby yeah!
Now Lily was an only child to a lady
Who danced on a stage wearing nothing on her body
And her daddy was a picture by her mama's bed
And it always would affect her what the other kids said
Waterlily Ruby Oh Oh No!
She ran away from home when she reached the age of fifteen
It didn't bother her mama cause her memory wasn't working
She stayed with an old man who made her feel much older
And the presents that he gave her, she would have stay forever
If she didn't get that letter
That stated her mum was better
So she ran back to her house just two blocks down the road
And about this time she was eighteen years old
And a rich young bachelor made a stop in her town
And sometime somewhere somehow they both fell in love
And he took her anywhere she wanted in the world
And she wanted everything she was ever told
Then her husband was killed in a hunting accident
And his family took away every cent
And Ruby came home back to her mama
Said, "mama, I'm never gonna love another
But all the young boys who lived around this area
Ruby showed us we could pay for pleasure
Her mama wasn't proud but her mama couldn't be mad
Cause Ruby found satisfaction the same way that she had
Yeah Waterlily Ruby!
I was fourteen years old when I met Waterlily Ruby
She said she' feeling tired and always feel so lonely
She said all your lessons would be free
As long as I was there when she need me
She died one night just as I was coming
It was a terrible thing so I kept on running
Oh Oh Waterlily Ruby!
