Took you in young and so pretty
To save you from this wild wild city
I took care of you in every way
And guided you along each passing day
Gave you all the things you needed
And that's the way life proceeded
Though I took care of you I been selfish
And time has come for it to be relinquished
You were like a caterpillar
Wounded and lost in the city
I took you home as it were a plant
And soon that wound was cleared up
But I forgot and I got attached
And now it's time to fly
Cause eventually every caterpillar
Becomes a butterfly

(musical interlude)

You were like a caterpillar
Moving around so aimlessly
I pointed you in my direction
And you did just what I wanted you too
But there are changes you can't avoid
It's the way nature has it planned
Some things you just have to deal with
Though you may not understand
This caterpillar kind of thing
I took you in young now you're older
And a transformation is taking place
Soon you'll have your wings of power
And you're gonna fly.

Time to say goodbye
Cause eventually every caterpillar turns to a butterfly!
