NEGLECTED FRIENDSHIP written by Sheldon Manoo (1993)

Remember when we were kids, we were young, we didn’t know much
We played childish games, we didn’t know love
We were like brothers and sisters, we were like a family
But somehow the years went against us causing unwanted rivalry
Why don’t we talk the way we used to why don’t we smile anymore?
What’s been going on lately, does it make any sense?
Come on, come on talk to me, I want us to be back as friends!

Let’s put on end to this neglected friendship
My neighbours we got to stop this
And go back to the way we were

Come on it’s time to break the ice, break all those barriers, now I extend my hand,
Hold it and shake it, shake it, shake it, let’s try to understand,
I don’t know what caused the misunderstanding but I was too ignorant to know
But as I grew the burden was too demanding to just let it go, on
I had to make the first move, we have to let it all out
We got to get rid of the false pride, we have to know what it’s all about
You got to forget all my past mistakes if there were any and everything is fine by me
We got to start back going to each others’ houses, talking ‘bout this and that you see
Only you and I could make it the same
Calling each other silly names
And let this renewed friendship never end
Let’s go back to being friends!

Let’s end this neglected friendship
Start an old time relationship
Do the things we used to do
Be the way we used to be
I’ll be a friend to you
You be a friend to me
My family it’s time to stop this foolishness
Let’s pay attention to this neglected friendship

Take a second to reflect on way back, to when we used to dine together
Go out to the cinema, take time to remember those sweet Decembers
We can’t let it go for no reason at all
Right now we just got to stand tall
It’s time to get off this event-less trip
Renew this neglected friendship
There were many days I was home alone and you were there too
And I came out and sat on that stone and so did you
But there was no communication; we’d glance at each other now and again
And I had no idea what was wrong but those times it’s time to forget them
Let’s start all over if we have to or just pick up where we left off
We just should not let it all be lost!
