CHANCES BLOWN AWAY written by Sheldon Manoo (1994)

I met her while travelling to an escapade
On my way I learnt her name
It wasn’t long ago, no it weren’t that long ago
She is someone I wanted so much to know
She called me up one Tuesday on the phone
And asked if I wanted to go a movie show
Then Thursday she called back to call it off
That was one chance she blew for sweet love
But still you know I hoped for something
Something that coulda be a wedding

But now I hear that she’s getting married
How do these things happen so fast?
And always to someone else
For me love never seem to last
She was the second in my list of maybes
I immensely thought she was the one
I always hoped to see her soon
Just to sing her my special song
I knew I had the convincing lines in my heart
That’s sure to win any free girl
With a love offer no girl could ever refuse
And she would jump into my world

But those words won’t come to my mouth
Though at lonely times I thought them all out
Whenever her ears were close to my voice
My tongue never said the words of my choice
She didn’t listen to the station I could have sent a dedication on
When I hoped she would she never came around
I didn’t know where she lived I didn’t know her address
So writing meaningful letters wouldn’t make any sense
So the most I could do or maybe it’s the least
Is to congratulate her in her new found peace
For me there’s nothing left to say
All my chances with her are blown away.
