How many songs can you sing tonight?

That will pull my heartstrings so tight

How many songs can you sit and write?

That means nothing to your own life

Can your songs send chills up my spine?

Can you set me in another frame of mind?

 

A singer with a song sung to no one

is like a player without a game

And a writer without words to express

is when there’s a fault with no one to blame

 

When the poetry dies!

With the senseless lies!

And the meaning fades!

And the soul is slain!

 

How many singers can sing a song so powerful,

That it moves you right out of your seat?

And how many voices are so remarkable,

That it can knock you right off of your feet?

I know not mine but atleast I can sing my songs!

And I mean it though I know I can’t lead you on!

Can really sing something they feel,

Without the pressure from the management;

And the temptation of a record deal?

 

Do you love my song?

Will you sing along?

Can you get me wrong,

            If I love what I do?

If you hate my music

Well don’t listen to it

So I won’t have a hit

            But I’ll still love what I do!

            For it is true!

 

And some people will choose a song

With perfect words and true meaning

And make vows and promises by that song

But they never mean what is playing

So at least I know I do

Believe in my songs they’re true

And I live by my words!
