They always said if you’re not white you’re black

They told us these are natural fact

And nobody grows in a world free

Love’s a friend and an enemy

Every day you got to watch your back

Someone’s there waiting to attack

And if love’s a cold heartless game

Why aern’t we all the same?

White man, Black man, Chinese, Indian

We all in the same situation

Trying to love some girl

Who will be real good!

But there’s always an aura around you

There’s always something about your race

When you’re in an inter-racial relationship

Somebody thinks it’s out of place

But forget them and what they think

You know how you feel

Their ignorance shouldn’t bother you

Love is what we all need

In Trinidad, this little island they called paradise

And that is just a pack of blasted lies

Cause every day I been living there

I heard a lot of things I never want to hear

Cause in my mind I hold no racist thought

But a lot of petty battles had to be fought

Some Africans and Indians grew up thinking the Caucasian people were superior

Some Indians felt they are better than the Africans

Some Africans felt Indians were alcoholics, wife beaters and a lot weaker

And some Chinese never knew where to go

But if I had my way

And if I had my say

I’ll have everyone close their eyes

To see what each other looked like

(Music talking drum & dholak)

There was this girl I used to know

She used to say she love me so

My family used to hint she wasn’t good enough

Her family kinda looked at me rough

Well their predictions finally came to pass

But their ignorance is why we didn’t last

She got married to a prominent Afro man

I’m just happy he treats her with sincere respect

As for me I’m looking for someone now

Race doesn’t matter oh what the heck!

I just want someone to love me for me

Just like she did and we’ll be happy

And when I think about her any chance I could

all I think is she used to be my girl!
