Well here I am with my guitar and my mouth

I got this song that I’m singing out

I been to the struggle, the struggle to make it

I don’t play all that good but at least I can take it

But here I am another day

I have come a long long way

Next door was this little kid

Used to hear him play

I, lived

Next door to a genius

Next door to a prodigy

What a musical genius

I hope some of that rubbed off on me

Many years have come and gone

I can’t sing the same old song

But every place that I been to

And every person music came through

Has their lasting effect on me

There are some things I’ll never be

But the thing that I became

Now at least you know my name

Think that I am this capable

Cause of the kid who lived next door oh

I, lived

Next door to a genius

Next door to a prodigy

What a musical genius

I hope some of that rubbed off on me

I think some of that rubbed off on me!

(solo)

Music fills the world with a little less hate, a little less anger

And the people who make it, some are just good, some a whole lot better

And it don’t matter what category you put me into

I just hope my music will have a positive effect on you

But when it comes to my own influences and inspirations

That kid who lived next door had to be a major one

I remember when he started it sounded really crappy

But not too long after that kid really impressed me, oh

I, lived

Next door to a genius

Next door to a prodigy

What a musical genius

I hope some of that rubbed off on me
